Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
